This early
May
2007 view of Deep Creek Village is from the marshy area on the
northeast side of the cove behind the DCV units. This cove
is the northern most tip of McHenry Cove. On some maps
this corner of the lake is labeled Marsh Run Cove (Marsh Run
feeds the lake from the right of this picture).

The main slopes of Wisp are
directly across Marsh Hill Rd. from the DCV units. The
slopes are GREAT for
hiking in late spring through mid autumn. During the
summer months you can ride your bike (preferably a mountain
bike) over to the slopes from DCV and have the time of your
life. But our docks (left center) are the main gateway to
fun in the area during the summer season. This picture was
taken with the lake at spring levels (highest of the year).
If you put a canoe or kayak in from the docks this time of the
year, you can paddle fifty yards or so into Marsh Run or
"the Heart of Darkness," as some of us like to call it.
This is the only time of the year when you can make this trek.
It doesn't take long to go there and back again and it isn't really scary (for most
people). But you do feel like Humphrey Bogart and
Katherine Hepburn on the African Queen if you share the
experience with a partner.
